2025 Sunroom & Outdoor Lighting Photography
Letter to my wonderful Clients and Followers:
Photography is one of the most powerful ways to tell stories. It allows us to capture moments, communicate emotions, and convey messages. I am constantly comparing, yes comparing my images with other photographers trends and their visual eye for how they capture their clients. Is comparing wrong. No, absolutely not. You see what clients want based on what they share on social media and honestly I love what you love. I have always been drawn to the movement and story telling that images bring. Yes, I do have clients who just want simple portraits of everyone together looking at the camera. I think those are amazing images too. The best photographers have a mix of these types of images. I get bored easily and find some work stale. Because having all your clients have exactly the same setting can get monotonous. The trend of boho studios was something I loved but as I watched it play out, everyone had the same studio by the end of 2023. I had to look at Photographer names to make sure it was different studios offering these beautiful images. I have never been a follower. I struggle to conform. It has always been a personality trait of mine. Its not that I need to be so different, its that I just cannot stand my work to just be another factory assembly line image. I think it hurt me in the end though. Because it was such a loved trend. I love it too. Why do I struggle so…
Anyway, looking at 2024 was a slow down year for me. I took the time to move from one location to another. We had sold our house in East Peoria and moved to the beautiful north side of Peoria. I love it! My studio went from a finished all white spacious walk out basement level of our previous home to now a long bright lit Sunroom. Hence the new name for my studio being referred to as THE SUNROOM. You will see it more as I go forward with the studio side of my work. One other reason I slowed down this past year was our growing family. If you have followed me since 2015 or even just the past five years, you have noticed our family went from three, to five, to 7 and then in October of 2023 our son joined us. He is now 1 and just the best one to round out our family to 8. Yes, we have 6 kids. Its a beautiful but long story for another day. So moving back to my photography, which is why you are here reading this blog.
I fully expect to have more bookings this October through November for Fall and Holiday sessions. (YES PLEASE BOOK! I was not great at marketing on social media this year, but I do have openings and I do have beautiful locations for outdoor as well as backdrops for my holiday sessions that I normally take the first half of November to photograph. I do not plan on doing holiday sessions in THE SUNROOM in December. Why? Because every year since I started, I have the late bookings that then want to push me to edit like a mad woman in the month of December and some how have them ready to post or print before Christmas. I am not doing that anymore. I will take regular sessions over some dates in December for Milestones and Newborns, because those are not time sensitive to a Holiday.
How do I wrap up this blog post? I honestly don’t know. Hahah… I just wanted to get all of this out to you and get my blog up to date. I hope to see you on the other side of my lens in the very near future.
